Sales of electronics during Ramadan is predicted to increase to 50 percent compared to the normal months on average one million units per month.
Secretary General of the Electronic Marketer (EMC) Handojo Soetanto said the increase is that market will be dominated refrigerator, air conditioner (air conditioner / air conditioning), and television. According to him, the demand for refrigerators at the beginning of Ramadan began to show improvement and is predicted to increase by 50 percent.
“However, the capacity of a refrigerator factory in the country is not able to boost production to 50 percent,” said Handojo in Jakarta, Wednesday (04/09/2008) yesterday. Handojo explained, the national electronics industry is only able to increase production capacity of the refrigerator about 20 percent.
While the rest of the new request will be filled in November and December 2008. While for household electronic products (home appliances) such as heating food (magig jar), he continued, would increase by around 30-40 percent.
“While the washing machine product demand will increase 10-20 percent,” he said.
Director of the Electronics Industry Ministry of Industry (Industry) Abdul Wahid declared something similar. The Government, he said, estimating the electronic market before Lebaran this year will increase 10-15 percent.
“This upward trend is happening every year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Marketing Director of PT Samsung Electronic Indonesia (Sein) Indrayana Stephen said, before Lebaran consumer purchasing power will increase along with the holiday bonus allowance (THR) from the company.
Sales of Samsung refrigerators and washing machines, he said, would rise 20-25 percent compared with previous months. For television, the sales increase was predicted only 10-15 percent.
“People are already many who have this product so that the increase was not as loud as other products,” he said. Along with the increase in consumption before Lebaran, Samsung had anticipated the situation about two months earlier by raising the sales target.
“Production of our factory had been increasing approximately 20 percent due to consumption of electronic products is expected to continue until October. After that, there will be corrections thin,” he explained. Based on data from EMC, along the first seven months of this year, sales of electronic products in the country jumped 41.5 percent from 5.3 million units in the same period in 2007 to 7.5 million units.
Total sales volume is generated turnover of around Rp10 trillion, or grew 22 percent to the total turnover in the same period last year recorded Rp8, 2 trillion. Handojo explains, there are several factors that push up demand for electronic products, among them increased purchasing power of the upper middle class community outside the island of Java in line with rising prices of primary commodities in world markets.
In addition, tighter controls at the entrance to Customs by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise officers to make the volume of illegal imports of electronic products, especially from China, thus decreasing significantly boost sales of domestically produced products.
